Building solar cold storage and processing sites

Products and services

Two solar cold storage sites run in Sandiara, day and night, with no grid and no generator. TUMIQUI JAPON SASU built them and operates them. The same configurations are offered for construction, in Senegal and in neighbouring countries, on the client’s land.

Two types of site

Solar cold storage container, 40 ft (Site A type)

Keep the harvest cool, at the market or in the growing area.

Component Content
Container One insulated 40-foot container
Solar 21 kWp
Cold room 22 m³
Temperature 2 to 8 °C
Refrigeration unit Daikin inverter unit
Power supply Solar and batteries only

In operation: Site A, Sandiara. Commissioned in 2026. The cold room is held at temperature with about 15 kWh a day, including on days when outside air exceeds 40 °C.

For: cooperatives, markets, local authorities, organisations

Solar cold storage, freezer and processing site (Site B type)

Chilled storage, frozen storage and a processing workshop on the same ground.

Component Content
Containers Three containers under a pitched roof
Solar 35 kWp
Cold room 60 m³
Freezer room Yes (-18 °C)
Workshop Washing, cutting, heat treatment, vacuum packing, freezing. One-way flow for hygiene
Power supply Solar and batteries only

In operation: Site B, Sandiara. The women’s group GIE DIAMI SANDIARA processes mangoes there.

For: processors, cooperatives, markets, organisations, government projects

The Sandiara solar cold storage pilot is supported by a grant from the MOL Blue Ocean Fund (Mitsui O.S.K. Lines).

What is delivered with the site

A container on its own does not make a site. TUMIQUI JAPON SASU delivers what is needed to keep it running over the years.

Component Content
Electricity Solar panels, batteries and inverters, sized for the use of the site
Cold Insulated container, refrigeration unit, temperature control
Remote monitoring Temperature, solar output and battery level monitored from Dakar and from Japan
Training Training of operators in operation, lot recording and hygiene
Maintenance Technicians based in Senegal, spare parts managed in Senegal

The steps

  1. Consultation. You tell us the use, the location, the products concerned and the capacity needed.
  2. Site visit. A technician checks sunlight, access, water and the surrounding markets.
  3. Design and quote. We propose the configuration: electricity, cold storage, freezing, processing, KIOSK. The quote is in writing.
  4. Construction. Containers and equipment are received in Senegal and assembled on your land by TUMIQUI JAPON SASU technicians.
  5. Training and handover. Operators are trained on site. The site is handed over with its documents.
  6. Follow-up. Remote monitoring and maintenance continue after handover, according to the contract.

Three design choices

Cut consumption before adding panels. The less the cold room consumes, the smaller the solar array and batteries can be. The 15 kWh a day at Site A come from the insulation and the inverter refrigeration unit.

Produce more electricity than the cold needs. The daytime surplus runs the processing workshop and the KIOSK. The site does more than keep things cold.

Choose the location with the client. A cold room in the growing area empties out at the end of the harvest. At a market, it runs all year. The location is decided before building.

Both Sandiara sites can be visited by appointment.

We are looking for partners. Product deployment, joint projects and field pilots.
