UNICEF Gambia: 147 Smart Kits in 122 schools
In rural Gambia, many primary schools have no electricity, or suffer frequent power cuts. Without electricity there is no television in the classroom, no charging for computers and no lessons after dark.
In 2025, UNICEF chose the TUMIQUI Smart Kit to equip 122 primary schools in The Gambia. 147 units were delivered, installed and commissioned in spring 2026. The operation was completed in May 2026.

How the choice was made
Before signing, UNICEF visited equipped schools in Senegal. The review covered the results obtained and the way operation is organised, not only the hardware. At the first school equipped in Senegal, the pass rate for the primary school leaving certificate had been reported to rise from 31% to 77% the following year. Power and video teaching materials are part of the conditions that support teachers’ work in class. The contract was signed without a consultancy or a trading company.
What was done in each school
- Delivery of the Smart Kit, its solar panel and a television.
- Installation and commissioning by TUMIQUI JAPON SASU technicians.
- Training of teachers in the use of the kit, the television and the teaching content on USB stick.
- Handover of documents and maintenance instructions.
The Smart Kit is portable. In the evening, the teacher stores it in a locked office. The panel is connected by a cable, with no building work. This is what made it possible to equip 122 schools in a few months, from Senegal.
What this shows
An international organisation can order directly from a company in the group and have delivery, installation and training carried out by the Senegalese team. The same route was used for IOM (International Organization for Migration), which received 45 Smart Kits at 3 border sites in The Gambia.
For a deployment of the same type, please state the number of schools or sites, the country and the intended timeline.
